How subtle movement, cold exposure and awareness can energize our lifes

Slowing down had been a far fetch concept for me a long time. I’ve always felt good about how many things I can do in a day or how much work load I could handle. New interesting thoughts and realizations have arised since I started to go deeper into the Feldenkrais Method. “Feldenkrais” is a somatic practice that uses gentle movement and directed attention to help people learn new and more effective ways, to be able to live the life they want. In the practice we ask ourselves: What is the smallest action, still possible for me to sense? Or: How fine tuned is my system to sense the smallest shift or change in movements?

The training or gym culture is most about „No-pain-no-gain Mentality”. Do more reps or more weights etc. These days I think, that sometimes its more beneficial to do less and to use more of our senses. Wheter we are practicing movements or when we stop to enjoy the smell of a flower or finding blueberries, hidden in the forest. – You need to use your very fine tuned senses.

For example when I move and sense how the breeze feels on my skin, how my pulse is shifting in my body as I move, how the heat is spreading to one part of my body – more then others, the smoothness in my movements, when my muscle connect, from one muscle to the other, or sensing where tensions build up when I move or how my breath is shifting.

Something beautiful happens, when we start to be aware of small and subtle things in life. The more I notice the small and subtle things in life, the more human I feel.

Biohackers Tipp

Try it out for yourself. Start small and with something that feels natural for you. Notice how your friend smiles,

Observe how the leafs are shifting colour,

Witness how you breathe in a given moment.

Instead of zooming out when you eat, try to really sense what spices you have put in your food or consciously get aware of the sensation of chewing a piece of meat.

Take in whatever small things, which you usually don´t notice deliberately. See what shift this makes for your life.
